The next social gathering “In the Ballroom” at the Jury Street Court House will be at 2pm on Thursday 30th March, when Unlocking Warwick’s Kate Sargent will be talking about some of the court cases heard in the building in the mid-19th Century, based on her research at the County Record Office, with extracts of newspaper reports read by Rick Thompson.

‘The Dark Side’ of Warwick also reveals some of the unhealthy conditions in the poorer parts of Warwick, where overcrowding and poor sanitation caused many deaths from disease, as revealed in the health inspector’s reports.

After the talk there will be tea and cake, and a quiz about Victorian times. These free drop-in gatherings are organised by the Town Council with Unlocking Warwick, with support from the Big Lottery ‘Awards for All’ and the King Henry VIII Endowed Trust.

It’s hoped that local residents who may find it difficult to get out and meet new people might enjoy these teas and talks in the ballroom, so if you know of someone who might be feeling a bit isolated, why not bring them along?  For more details, call the Town Hall team on 01926 411694 or email info@unlockingwarwick.org
