Poppies Galore
The September edition of the social group “In the Ballroom” saw guests making poppies, by crocheting, knitting or using felt templates.
The reason? Next year’s Armistice Day will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. St. Mary’s Church is organising a special community tribute to those who lost their lives in The Great War, many from this area. Their names are on the war memorial in Church Street.
The organisers are hoping for thousands of poppies crafted by the people of Warwick to create a spectacular display in a year from now. The poppies will flow out of the Royal Warwickshire Regimental Chapel and around the interior of St. Mary’s as a special tribute.
If you want to contribute some poppies, perhaps dedicated to a relative who died in the 1914-18 conflict, all the details are here: www.warwickpoppies.org.uk
