Planning the summer events
On 25th March the Unlocking Warwick volunteers met in the Court House Council Chamber to plan all our community events for the summer months.
These start with activities to support English Tourism Week, from March 30th to April 7th. Tour guide Paula Fletcher will begin the events with a free 90-minute Historic Warwick Walk around the town, starting at the Jury Street Court House at 10.30am on Saturday March 30th. www.historicwarwickwalks.com
On the following Saturday it will be the first free Court House Tour of the summer season taking guests around the Grade 1 listed building from 11am to 11.45am. These tours happen on selected Saturdays until the Heritage Open days weekend in mid-September. There’s no need to book for these walks and tours.
There is a great line-up of speakers and activities for the popular social ‘In The Ballroom’ on the second Wednesdays of each month, and the Tea and Dance Lessons in the ballroom will continue on the first Tuesday of each month, with coaching from professional dance teachers, and tea, coffee and cake in the interval.
And the research continues for our special website telling the personal stories of the 364 people from Warwick who died in WW1 and whose names are on the memorial in Church Street. With help from local people, we now have profiles and some pictures of most of the local men who did not return from the war. But we still have a few dozen names with only basic military information. We hope more Warwick residents will come forward with more material from their family albums. Have a look at the website: www.warwickwarmemorial.org.uk
Our events through the summer can be found on our long-term list, ‘What’s On in Warwick’, on this website.
