A Community Award for Unlocking Warwick

The High Sheriff of Warwickshire, David Kelham, marked the end of his term of office by presenting certificates of merit to various voluntary organisations from across the county.

The community awards evening was held in the Old Shire Hall on 4th April. Unlocking Warwick was among the volunteer groups receiving recognition and thanks. The citation from the High Sheriff reads:

‘In recognition of the work the volunteers have done over nearly 10 years to make the Court House a centre of community activity and to promote the heritage of the town. The volunteers have organised popular events, researched its social history, and brought it to life with dramatisations and tours of the building for visitors and residents’.

The award was collected by two of the original group of volunteers, Ann Lettis and Rick Thompson.

Others from Warwick who received awards were Gill Fletcher (work with young people and Warwick’s heritage), Mandy Littlejohn (Warwick in bloom), and Trevor and Lindsey Langley (Scouts and Community Cafes).

Reflecting on the awards and his tenure as High Sheriff of Warwickshire, David Kelham said: “The number of wonderful people – paid public servants or volunteers – who do so much to keep Warwickshire working is awe-inspiring.

No matter how much time I spent out and about, I have been conscious from the beginning that I could not possibly meet or thank all who go above and beyond. So I asked for nominations from the public through the High Sheriff Website, and from organisations as I went around, and have been stunned with the response.

The reception in the old heart of the county town was a chance to say thank you to as many people as I could with High Sheriff Award certificates.”
