A Local Suffragette
The life and times of Cecily (pronounced Size-ly) Lucas will be the subject of the talk at our gathering ‘In The Ballroom’ on Wednesday 12th March at 2pm. Born in Westwood Heath in 1879, Cecily was very interested in the education of girls and became a headmistress after Teacher Training College.
She became an outspoken Suffragette, advocating votes for women, and gaining respect for the cause. Her life will be explained by local historian and writer Christine Cluley.
As usual, there will be tea, coffee and cake served by the volunteers, and Helen’s picture-quiz. The afternoon costs just £3 per person – cash on the door please.
These monthly gatherings are very popular, so it is essential to reserve your place by popping in to the Visitor Information Centre. Or you can phone them on 01926 492212
