Courier Marks Launch of Memorial Project
On 20th April, the Warwick Courier reported the launch of Unlocking Warwick’s War Memorial project with a prominent article and an appeal to local people for photos of information about family members who had died in the First World War.
Interestingly, the Warwick and Leamington Courier’s predecessor, the Warwickshire Advertiser, is being studied at the County Record Office by members of the Unlocking Warwick research team for any death notices, tributes and citations in the 1914-18 period.
The basic information about the military records of those who died has already been entered on the individual pages for ‘The Fallen’ on the War Memorial website. Now the team is seeking more of the human stories and backgrounds of the 358 local people who died in the Great War.
As well as the searchable database of those who went to serve in WWI and did not return to Warwick, there are features about the impact on the town, the local regiments, other memorials around Warwick and ideas on how you can do your own research.
