New Courtroom Drama

On Saturday 9th April, Unlocking Warwick’s impromptu ‘Court House Players’ will be performing a new dramatisation of real cases that were heard by magistrates in the Jury Street Court House in the mid-19th century.

Based on research at the County Record Office, the featured cases show the poor social conditions in parts of Warwick, with overcrowding, disease and crime, with harsh sentences handed down by the bench. The court was a popular entertainment, so the audience will be encouraged to join in with noisy reactions to the evidence and the sentences.

The 30-minute re-enactment takes place in the Court House ballroom at 2.30pm on Saturday 9th April, and is free to attend on a first-come basis.
