Unlocking Warwick’s Court House Tours over the Heritage Open Days weekend on September 9th and 10th proved to be extremely popular.

A record number of 72 people enjoyed a series of tours led by Ann, Paula and Karen, involving a look round the interior and exterior of the restored building which was built by the noted local architect Francis Smith in 1725.

The free 45-minute tours told of the history of the buildings on this central site, and also introduced visitors to some of the history of Warwick itself, from its origins as a Saxon fortified town created by Alfred the Great’s daughter, through it’s establishment as an independent corporation in the 16th century, its partial destruction in the Great Fire of Warwick in 1694 and its reconstruction in Georgian times.

The final tour of this season will be on Saturday 23rd September. It will start at 11am in the Pageant Gardens behind the Visitor Information Centre. It’s a case of first come first served, so get there in good time to be sure of a tour!
